Luc takes us to Zaventem in the afternoon and at 10:45 am local time (5 hours difference with Belgium) we land in Buenos Aires, after two stops in Lisbon and Sao Paulo. At the airport it is very crowded, getting a trolley for our luggage is a problem. The row for the pass control follows a virtual cordon in the hall. We are told twice that we are not moving according to the invisible line. The taxi we booked is not there, we take another one to the place where we ordered an air conditioner. A friendly lady, who speaks good English, helps us very efficiently and arranges further transportation for us to the campsite where our tsjolbak is parked. We find it under a tree in the far corner of the parking lot. Lots of moisture and shadow for six months caused a lot of mold inside the camper. Obviously, the solar panels did not work and Michel fears that the house battery is out of order. Fortunately, after two days, it comes to life again by means of a drop charger.
A lot of cleaning has to be done. The weather is volatile: sun and rain. There is good wifi and on Sunday we follow the volleyball game of our Red Dragons against Serbia. They miss the bronze medal by a few points. On Monday we leave Buenos Aires towards Paraguay, a ride of 1400 km we do in three days. Michel is in good shape, he can effortlessly drive 400 km per day and more, which was not possible on our previous trip. The various treatments he went through for his heart problems have the desired result. In Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, we have an appointment with Kirichenko, who sold us an airco in the beginning of 2016, which has only worked for a few days. He agrees to remove the old and install the new one free of charge, as compensation. One day work for two of his workmen.
We arrive in Asuncion Thursday in the afternoon, traffic is extremely hectic, roads works and crazy drivers everywhere. We leave the airco tool at Kirichenko’s and agree to return the following Monday to have it installed. On the website of iOverlanders we read a lot about the campsite “Hasta la Pasta” and we go there, at least that is the plan. After standing in a traffic jam for more than an hour, we make a u-turn and go to the jardin botanique, where we can stay for free protected by very friendly armed guards. We spend the week-end in Hasta la Pasta, a lovely place, the water of the swimming pool is cold and refreshing because the temperature rises to 34 ° C.Then there are four more days of work at Mecanicar, where new brake discs and clutch are placed. Roberto, the sympathetic and helpful boss, informs us that he has a friend who can move the steering wheel of our tsjolbak from right to left. That would suit us, because driving right with the steering wheel on the right is not always easy. The work will take five days and cost US $ 1500.We rent a comfortable studio with air conditioning and swimming pool from airbnb. A wise decision, because after three days of rainy and cold weather, there is again a heat wave with a peak of 36 ° C. When Michel goes to the workshop to see how the works are going, he gets scared: will that turn out well?
